Foster received just 15 carries and gained 78 yards this season. But he scored a touchdown in the win over Purdue and played well in the loss to Minnesota, rushing 11 times for 56 yards.
Foster, a Peoria native, was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2013, the 30th-ranked player in Illinois that year.
While the emergence of freshman Ke'Shawn Vaughn — who finished as the Illini's leading rusher with 723 yards and six touchdowns on 157 carries — means Illinois will have a reliable starting back next season, Foster's departure will affect the team's depth.
