Jim Harbaugh is back in Chicago, and Michigan's first-year coach got to meet up with his old pro coach before taking the stage for his press conference at Big Ten Media Days.
The former Bears quarterback said he met up with Mike Ditka, under whom he played from 1987-1992, at Ditka's eponymous restaurant Thursday night. And during his press conference Friday at McCormick Place, Harbaugh brought this jersey:
Harbaugh snagged the jersey from Ditka's restaurant before leaving, and talked about how he's still close with his former coach.
"It's your coach," Harbaugh said. "When you're a player, your coach, it's like family. There is your family. Sometimes there's a favorite teacher that you had growing up, grade school or high school. There's sometimes a neighbor that you were very close to. Maybe somebody in the church or the clergy and your coach. And it's so close to your family. I had a chance to spend the evening with coach last night at his restaurant. And Diana (Ditka's wife) was there and Sarah (Harbaugh's wife) was there and it was just really, really special to be with my coach."
