The Blackhawks announced Monday evening that center Kirby Dach underwent surgery on his right wrist and is expected to be out four-to-five months.
The regular season is scheduled to wrap up on May 8, meaning Dach will miss most of the 2020-21 campaign and potentially all of it. The news comes less than a week after the team announced forward Alex Nylander would four-to-six months with a knee injury.
It's a brutal loss for the Blackhawks, who were preparing to give Dach a significant role this season. He logged the second-most ice time among team forwards in the postseason with an average of 19:24, trailing only Patrick Kane (22:29).
Dach, who was named captain of Team Canada, suffered the injury on Dec. 23Â in the exhibition opener of the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship after he collided with a Russian player at center ice.Â
