The Blackhawks have agreed to terms with defenseman Jake McCabe on a four-year deal, the team announced Wednesday. His cap hit is $4 million.

McCabe, 27, recorded three points (one goal, two assists) in 13 games this season for the Buffalo Sabres before missing the rest of the campaign with a knee injury. He also averaged 19:11 of ice time and had a rating of plus-2.

McCabe sustained injuries to his ACL, MCL and meniscus in a game against the New Jersey Devils on Feb. 20 and was put on a six-to-eight-month timeline. It's unclear whether he'll be ready for the start of training camp in September.

McCabe is a shutdown defenseman who has a little bit of offensive upside to his game. He has the potential to be a top-four defenseman on the Blackhawks.

McCabe was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the second round (No. 44 overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft.
