Blackhawks' Kirby Dach sidelined with wrist aggravation

Share

Blackhawks center Kirby Dach was held out of the lineup in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes with right wrist scar tissue aggravation, the team announced before the game.

"I don't know exactly what the plan is going to be for the rest of the games," head coach Jeremy Colliton said afterwards. "It's not totally unexpected to deal with some scar tissue. Just kind of came to a head today. We'll see what the next few days bring."

Dach underwent surgery on Dec. 28 to repair a right wrist fracture he sustained at the IIHF World Junior Championship in Edmonton. He was originally put on a four-to-five-month timetable, but returned ahead of schedule and made his season debut on March 27, which was nearly three months later.

Dach has 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in 18 games this season with the Blackhawks. He's averaging 18:34 of ice time, which is a significant leap from the 14:16 average during his rookie campaign.

With three games left after Tuesday and the team officially out of playoff contention, it would be wise of the Blackhawks to hold out Dach for the remainder of the season and not risk further injury. He's a key building block for the future of the franchise.
