Blackhawks place Kevin Lankinen on injured reserve

Share

The Blackhawks have placed Kevin Lankinen on injured reserve with a right hand injury, the team announced Sunday. A source told NBC Sports Chicago he is expected to miss roughly three weeks.

Lankinen flew back home to Chicago for further evaluation and the Blackhawks should get a better sense of the severity of the injury on Monday.

The 26-year-old goaltender is coming off one of his best performances of the season after stopping 40 of 44 shots for a save percentage of .909 in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Minnesota Wild. It was his first start since Dec. 18.

It's unclear when Lankinen may have sustained the injury. He finished the game on Saturday with no visible discomfort following the overtime winner.

Arvid Soderblom has been recalled from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League and assigned to Chicago's active roster. He's likely to serve as Marc-Andre Fleury's backup, although Cale Morris is also on the active roster.

The Blackhawks have five games remaining before the NHL All-Star break, three of which are against Central Division opponents. You have to think Fleury will get all the work over the next week and a half.
