Blackhawks injury updates on Carlsson, Murphy, Strome

The Blackhawks provided injury updates on three players ahead of Monday's practice in Columbus:

  • Lucas Carlsson (strained groin) has been placed on injured reserve, retroactive to Feb. 19. He is expected to miss 10-14 days.

"He’s been solid for us," head coach Jeremy Colliton said. "He’s one of those guys that took on a little more in Murph’s absence. He’s gotten better as he’s played a few games in a row, gotten more comfortable. He can be physical, he's a big body, he's made more and more plays offensively over the last few games, so unfortunate for him but he's just got to work at getting back as soon as he can and he’ll be in the mix."

  • Connor Murphy has been activated from injured reserve after missing the last six games with a right hip injury. It's unclear when he'll return to the lineup, but he's certainly knocking on the door.

"He’s an important player," Colliton said. "He takes a lot of minutes for us. It was a big hole to fill over the last little bit and I’m pretty proud of the guys, how they’ve stepped up and everyone’s taken on more responsibility to get the job done and we’ve been able to get some wins. We’re trying to get him back in as soon as we can. He plays heavy penalty kill, heavy 5-on-5 and that'll help us."

  • Dylan Strome was placed in concussion protocol and did not practice with the team on Monday. He got hit a few games ago but didn't feel any immediate symptoms, according to Colliton.

"These symptoms are sometimes late arriving," Colliton said. "In talking to him, he hasn’t felt as good the last little while. It’s tough. As a player, you want to play and you feel like you can play through things and it’s easy to be in denial about what you’re feeling. But I think he just came to a point where he felt like it had to be something and spoke up. I'm glad, earlier better than later, but we’ll see now how long it’s going to be."

The Blackhawks are scheduled to play the Blue Jackets on Tuesday at Nationwide Arena. They're coming off a 5-3 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday.
