On Wednesday, the Blackhawks selected goalie Drew Commesso in the second round, No. 46 overall, of the 2020 NHL Draft.
Commesso, 18, went 18-7-1 with a 2.05 goals-against average, a .920 save percentage and three shutouts last season with the U.S. National Development Program's under-18 team. The 6'2, 180 lb. netminder is currently a freshman at Boston University.
His selection marks the third time the Blackhawks have drafted a goalie in the second round in franchise history (Kent Simpson in 2010 and Corey Crawford in 2003).
Crawford, a two-time Stanley Cup champion with Chicago, is an unrestricted free agent. The Hawks seem to have freed up enough cap space to sign him to a short-term deal, which he said would best suit him, but nothing is official yet.
