The Blackhawks have snagged defenseman Erik Gustafsson for two more seasons on a contract extension.
The Sweden native has notched five points in 19 games with the Hawks this year including a goal made during his season debut Jan. 20 against the New York Islanders.
Gustafsson — who has spent the last few seasons bouncing back between the Blackhawks and the Rockford IceHogs — is going to focus on “playing his own game more.”
In the time Gustafsson spent with the IceHogs this season, he recorded 17 points and got the nod for the 2018 American Hockey League All-Star Classic.
While at Rockford, he was also named the team’s Defenseman of the Year for their 2016-17 season when he made 25 assists.
The 25-year-old originally signed with Chicago on April 30, 2015, and made his NHL debut during the 2015-16 season where he picked up 14 assists in 41 regular-season games.
