WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Blackhawks have traded goaltender Malcolm Subban to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for future considerations, the team announced Thursday.
Subban, 27, went 2-2-1 with a 3.38 goals-against average and .893 save percentage in five appearances this season with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. He went 6-8-1 with a 3.20 goals-against average and .900 save percentage in 17 career games with the Blackhawks.
The move allows Collin Delia and Arvid Soderblom to be the definitive tandem in Rockford, which was carrying three goaltenders all season long. Soderblom has led the way with a 4-4-0 record, 3.15 goals-against average and .917 save percentage while Delia is 1-1-2 with a 2.85 goals-against average and .902 save percentage.

Subban has proven to be, at the very least, a decent NHL backup, so this gives him a fresh start on a Sabres team that has the fifth-worst save percentage in the league at .895. They were in the market for a goaltender because of the injury to Craig Anderson in early November.
