Following the news that Dustin Byfuglien and the Winnipeg Jets were working towards mutually terminating his contract — expiring after the 2020-21 season with a cap hit of $7.6 million and a modified no trade clause — it was speculated he'd be done for the year.

That speculation was confirmed by St. Louis Blues rinkside reporter for Fox Sports Midwest, Andy Strickland, on Monday morning.

Byfuglien, 34, hasn't played at all this season and underwent ankle surgery in October.

The Roseau, Minnesota native was selected in the eighth round of the 2003 NHL Draft (245th overall) by the Blackhawks. He had 109 regular season points (55 goals, 54 assists) with Chicago from 2006-2010.

Byfuglien - 6'5, 260 lbs. - was a member of the Blackhawks' 2010 Stanley Cup championship team.
