Goaltender Kevin Lankinen called up by Blackhawks with Robin Lehner out

With Robin Lehner out with flu-like symptoms, the Blackhawks have added goaltender Kevi Lankinen to the roster.

Lankinen joins on an emergency basis for Monday’s game against the St. Louis Blues. Lehner did not participate in Monday's morning skate. Corey Crawford is expected to start with Lankinen serving as his backup.

Lankinen was 5-2-1 with a 2.48 goals-against average with the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs. The 24-year-old is in his second season in the Blackhawks organization after signing from Finnish club HIFK in May of 2018.

With Lankinen going up, defenseman Ian McCoshen headed to Rockford. McCoshen didn’t appear for the Blackhawks after being recalled.

Lehner's absence, even if it's expected to be a short-term one, comes when the team's depth is already being tested by Duncan Keith being out.
