How Patrick Kane is gearing up for 1,000th career game

Even with 999 NHL games under his belt, Patrick Kane doesn’t look like a player on the downside of his career.

Now in his 14th season, Kane has been in the top 5 in the league in points for most of the year.

So how does he do it?  The 32-year old Kane looks up to two athletes older than he is, both coming off championship seasons: 36-year-old LeBron James and Tom Brady, who, at the age of 43, just won his seventh Super Bowl.

“Those guys are definitely guys that I look up to,” Kane told Pat Boyle and Charlie Roumeliotis on the latest Blackhawks Talk Podcast.  “As you get older, you learn more and more about your body and what works for you and what doesn’t.”

Both James and Brady are well known for the commitment each has made to health and fitness, an example Kane has followed over the past few seasons.

“You hear about the financial investment they make in their body, the lengths they go to extend their career.

“As a professional athlete I think that’s the best investment you can make is in your body and to take care of yourself, it seems like it’s really worked out for those guys.”

And in what can be referred to as ‘greatness recognizing greatness’, Kane says Brady “just never ceases to amaze”.

As for King James, Kane added “I’ve really enjoyed watching LeBron.  It’s amazing how good he is still in his 18th season.”

Kane may have played fewer professional seasons than LeBron, but number 88 still amazes Blackhawks fans with the show he puts on night after night.

The Blackhawks will face the Dallas Stars Tuesday at the American Airlines Center.
