NHL 2020-2021 season has a target date

On Tuesday, ahead of the 2020 NHL Draft, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman announced the league and the NHL Players' Association are targeting a January 1 start date for the 2020-2021 regular season.

The NHL and NHLPA were previously considering starting next season on December 1, but with the Stanley Cup Playoffs finishing in late September — with the Tampa Bay Lightning hoisting the Stanley Cup after beating the Dallas Stars in the Stanley Cup Final — it certainly seems too difficult to pull off.

The Blackhawks have the No. 17 overall pick in Tuesday night's Day 1 of the draft.
