The NHL announced Wednesday that the Blackhawks vs. Oilers game in Edmonton on Tuesday, Jan. 18 has been postponed due to Canadian attendance restrictions. The league will reschedule the game later in the season when the restrictions are lifted/eased.
That brings the total number of Blackhawks postponements to six, which are likely to be made up in February during what would've been the Winter Olympics break.
With no fans allowed in certain Canadian cities for the time being, the NHL is looking to protect the gate revenue as much as possible. Not doing so could impact the salary cap projections moving forward, among other things.
The Oilers make roughly $2.5 million per home game, according to reports, which gives you a better idea of why Chicago's game in Edmonton will be rescheduled.
