Patrick Sharp, currently in his second year as a broadcaster for NBC Sports and NBC Sports Chicago, garnered high praise for his work as an analyst from former teammates back in January.
Patrick Kane pointed to Sharp's conversational style, while Jonathan Toews acknowledged his poise and passion. But with the recent leadership changes within the Blackhawks organization (John McDonough, team president since 2007, being fired and Daniel Wirtz serving as the interim president), another comment from Kane seems a bit more interesting now.
“I thought maybe he'd be trying to get in with the team somewhere, whether it was scouting or trying to get into the front office," Kane told NBC Sports Chicago. "I could see him doing that even to this day. Maybe that's a stepping stone for him maybe in the future. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the front office at some point because I think he's pretty good at scouting players and knowing a lot about the league, too.”
Back when Sharp took the TV gig in the fall of 2018, he said: “After a long career on the ice, it will be fun and challenging to be a part of the game from a new perspective, and I look forward to working with former teammates and people that I’ve watched on NBC Sports Chicago for many years.”
The three-time Stanley Cup champ hasn't made any recent comments that would indicate a desire to change gigs.
Fellow 2010 Stanley Cup champions Colin Fraser and Brian Campbell work in the front office as an amateur scout and a development coach, respectively. 2013 champ Sheldon Brookbank is an assistant coach, and Chris Kunitz, who retired a Hawk in July of 2019, serves as player development advisor.
