Brewers hit snag in Greinke extension talks

As the Cubs and Brewers face off at Wrigley Field, Milwaukee has been working behind the scenes to try to lock up star pitcher Zack Greinke to an extension.

Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said the Brewers "suspended" long-term contract negotiations with Greinke and have no plans to restart the talks just yet.

Extensions are all the craze in the NL Central right now, with Brandon Phillips and Joey Votto earning big paydays from the Cincinnati Reds.

If Greinke, 28, hits the open market, he could fetch a huge contract, as he may be the biggest free agent on the market.
