38 Days to Opening Night: Bobby Portis' career-high in points

Share

Bobby Portis probably wishes he weren’t here at No. 38. He missed a potential game-winner at the buzzer that would have given him a 40 spot in a loss to the Sixers back in February.

Still, his 38-point outing off the bench was something special. He went 15 for 26 from the field, made six 3-pointers and added eight rebounds and a pair of assists. He dropped 14 points in the first quarter and 12 more in the final stanza, but also missed his last five attempts as the Bulls let a five-point lead with 35 seconds left slip away.

Late struggles aside, Portis became the 40th bench player in NBA history to score 38 or more points in a single game. He’s the kind of player who can catch fire in a reserve role, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see him top that total at some point this upcoming season.
