Arturas Karnisovas to represent Bulls at virtual NBA Draft Lottery

It’s been a heck of a 48 hours for Arturas Karnisovas.

On Friday, the final day of the NBA’s regular season, he axed head coach Jim Boylen and kicked off the search for the 24th coach in franchise history. Saturday, the team announced Karnisovas, who was hired as the organization’s third ever head of basketball operations in April, will represent the Bulls at the NBA Draft Lottery on Aug. 20. This year, the lottery is being held virtually amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Bulls enter the lottery with the seventh-best odds at nabbing the No. 1 pick, 7.5 percent. The team owns a 32 percent chance of vaulting to the top four and a 19.7 percent chance of sticking at No. 7. It’s also possible for their spot to slip to No. 8 (34.1%), No. 9 (12.9%), No. 10 (1.3%) or No. 11 (.03%).

For the past two seasons, No. 7 has felt preordained — three if you count the year the old management regime traded up into the slot and selected Lauri Markkanen.

But a new era is upon the Bulls. Karnisovas embodies it. Might he bring better luck?
