On Tuesday, the Greater Lansing Food Bank (member of Feeding America) announced that Bulls guard Denzel Valentine made a donation to help provide meals to families and individuals in mid-Michigan.

In response, Valentine tweeted #517Strong, an allusion to the Lansing, Mich., area code of 517. Valentine is from Lansing originally and spent four years at Michigan State in East Lansing before being selected by the Bulls with the No. 14 pick in the 2016 draft.

"My heart goes out to everyone in need," Valentine said, via the Food Bank. "I want to give back right now to my home community."

WILX 10 of Lansing reported the donation amount to be $10,000.

With the donation, Valentine becomes the latest in a long line of NBA players to step up and aid communities in need in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic — a heartening development in a trying time.
