Bulls flip Jameer Nelson for Willie Reed, will waive Reed

Jameer Nelson, we hardly knew ye.

The Bulls recently acquired the 35-year-old guard from the Pelicans in the Nikola Mirotic trade. Now he's headed to Detroit to reunite with coach Stan Van Gundy, who he played for in Orlando for five seasons.

In return for Nelson, the Bulls receive center Willie Reed. NBC Sports Chicago's Vincent Goodwill is reporting that the Bulls will immediately waive Reed.

Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania was first on the trade, which also includes a swap of 2022 second-round picks (for some reason).

According to Goodwill, it is the Bulls that have the right to swap picks to move up in that 2022 second round.

Nelson will be dealt before having played a game with the Bulls. Reed, 27, is also on an expiring contract and is currently serving a six-game suspension for a domestic violence incident. Reed was with the Clippers when the incident happened and he was a part of the Blake Griffin trade on Jan. 29, meaning it is the second trade in a matter of weeks for both players.
