In a precautionary move based on the recommendation of team medical staff and physicians, the Bulls announced Thursday they will cease all basketball operations activities for "the next few days" in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The statement came after the Bulls returned Thursday from Orlando, where they flew on Wednesday to play a game that never happened. The NBA suspended its season indefinitely after Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. On Thursday, Gobert’s teammate, Donovan Mitchell, confirmed on his Instagram account that he, too, had tested positive for the virus.

According to the team, no Bulls player has reported to be symptomatic in regards to the virus. Players, coaches and basketball operations personnel will remain in the Chicagoland area until further notice.

The NBA league office again held a conference call Thursday with high-ranking officials from all 30 teams, in which talk of a 30-day moratorium took place.

With the NHL joining the NBA in suspending its season, United Center officials continued to perform its daily task of cleaning the building. The building’s website on Tuesday announced “enhancing cleaning measures for the safety and comfort of all visitors.” Cleaning measures at the Advocate Center, the Bulls’ practice facility, have continued daily as well.

It’s unknown when players will be allowed to return for individual or team workouts.
