Windy City Bulls announce return for 2021-22 season

After not participating in the G League's condensed 2021 season, which was hosted near Orlando, Fla. earlier this year, the Windy City Bulls announced Wednesday that they will return in November for the 2021-22 campaign.

The Windy City Bulls have acted as the Chicago Bulls' G League affiliate since 2016 and are entering their fifth season based in Hoffman Estates, Ill. Their schedule will be announced at a later date, but it appears they are set to welcome fans back as well.

Whenever the team next suits up, it will be their first game played since March 2020, when the 2019-20 season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an interview with NBC Sports Chicago in January 2021, Windy City Bulls president Brad Seymour said the pandemic had a "huge financial impact" on the organization, especially on the business side. On the basketball operations side, multiple employees were either promoted or reassigned while the team was inactive.

One of those promotions included former Windy City head coach Damian Cotter, who accepted a permanent, player development-focused role on Billy Donovan's staff last November. So hiring a new coach for the G League club will need to be addressed.

Without their affiliate in attendance, the Bulls scouted the 2021 G League "bubble" and sent each of their Two-Way players to Florida for stints with other organizations. Devon Dotson averaged 13 points and 5.6 assists in 10 starts for the Canton Charge (Cleveland Cavaliers); Adam Mokoka averaged 5.8 points and 4.3 rebounds in four games with the Austin Spurs (San Antonio Spurs).

Eighteen teams attended the bubble — 17 linked to NBA organizations plus the G League Ignite. The Lakeland Magic (Orlando Magic) defeated the Delaware Blue Coats (Philadelphia 76ers) in the championship game.

Now, it appears things are returning to some form of normalcy.
