Here is where ‘The Last Dance' documentary name came from

The basketball world is all tuned into "The Last Dance," the name of the documentary chronicling Michael Jordan and the Bulls final championship season in 1997-98.

It seemed like a catchy name for a documentary about a dynasty's final run at glory, but it actually has a specific meaning.

In fact, the name was picked out over two decades ago before that season ever began.

“[Head coach] Phil [Jackson] always looked for a theme for every season, and given that it was the last year we were gonna be together — management had already made that decision — in typical Phil fashion, he had a name for it,” former Bulls guard Steve Kerr said.

“We’d arrived at the practice facility, it’s our first official meeting as a team,” Wennington said. “Get the team handbook, laminated on the front page, The Last Dance.”

And right on cue, they show Jackson holding that laminated packet.

“I talked to the players about particularly how important it was for us to really be together in this last run that we were going to have,” Jackson said. “So I called it The Last Dance.”
