On his 25th birthday, Zach LaVine wants to be known for more than dunking

Zach LaVine has big aspirations for his career in the NBA. He was vocal about wanting to be an All-Star this this season and openly speaks about the high standards he holds himself to on the court. Today, March 10, is LaVine’s 25th birthday and while many sports outlets are wishing him well, one happy birthday tweet struct a nerve with the young star.

ESPN wished LaVine a happy birthday by posting a video of his iconic performance in the 2016 Slam Dunk contest. While I can’t read the minds of the ESPN social media team, it’s safe to assume they wanted to celebrate LaVine and his epic highlights. LaVine didn’t see it that way. He replied to the tweet, seemingly irritated about being known only for his dunks.

As LaVine enters year 25, it’s clear that he’s still trying to prove himself. At All-Star Weekend last month, LaVine performed in the 3-point contest, coming up short with a disappointing first-round exit.

If LaVine wants to be known for more than the dunking days of his youth, he has to focus on turning his teams into real title contenders.
