Jim Boylen reportedly adds Nets assistant coach Chris Fleming to his staff

The Bulls recently showed their commitment to head coach Jim Boylen, rewarding him with a multi-year contract extension for what they felt was a solid show of player development in his brief stint. But it was reported that a big part of the extension for Boylen rooted in the fact the front office wanted to give him the opportunity to upgrade his staff.

Boylen has done just that, as Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported on Wednesday evening that Boylen has hired Brooklyn Nets assistant Chris Fleming.

Based off of the Nets playing style, we can expect to see Fleming provide some valuable insight for Boylen and co.

Fleming has a great background in player development. He worked as an assistant coach under Mike Malone with the Denver Nuggets in 2016. Following that season, he shifted over to Kenny Atkinson’s staff with the Nets. He has also a San Antonio Spurs connection, serving as the top assistant on the Spurs Summer League team in 2014.

Prior to his time in the NBA, he has a long history of success overseason. Fleming coached in Germany for over a decade. He was the head coach of the senior German national basketball team from 2015-2017, German League Coach of the Year in 2011, and has four German Cup championships and three German Supercup championships to his name.

Fleming is coming to the Bulls following a very successful season in Brooklyn in which the Nets went 42-40 before getting eliminated by the Sixers in five games in the Eastern Conference First Round.

There are additional reports that Boylen is not done adding to his staff.

Boylen is reportedly looking to bring Texas Tech defensive coordinator Mark Adams abaord. Adams helped form the Red Raiders excellent defense, which ranked No. 1 in the nation by a decent margin per Kenpom.com
