A pair of Michael Jordan game-worn shoes sold for $1.47 million at Sotheby's on Sunday. That total marks a record for sneakers at auction, according to NBC News.
The 1984 Nike Air Ships that sold are the earliest known Nikes worn in a game by Jordan, with a design that predates even the Air Jordan 1, Sotheby's said.
Jordan wore this pair, specifically, for his fifth NBA game on Nov. 1, 1984, a 129-113 loss to the Denver Nuggets. He tallied 17 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the contest.

The model, which was designed by Bruce Kilgore, features a white and red colorway and "Air" printed on the heel. It is known as the first shoe Jordan wore as a professional.
The sneakers were originally gifted to Tommie Tim III Lewis, a Nuggets ball boy. Sotheby's reports them to be in "excellent" condition.
