The NBA All-Star Celebrity Game rosters have plenty of Chicago ties

Share

The All-Star Game won’t feature any Bulls players, but the celebrity game will at least provide a bunch of local ties.

The rosters were released on Wednesday with Chicago hip-hop icons Chance the Rapper and Common serving as captains of the two teams. Michael Wilbon, a Northwestern grad and noted Chicago sports fan, is coaching one of the teams with Stephen A. Smith randomly on the other side.

Jesse Williams, of Grey’s Anatomy fame and a Chicago native, is Wilbon’s assistant coach. Guy Fieri, for some reason, is Smith’s assistant.

Those with Chicago ties include Taylor Bennett (Chance’s younger brother), LaRoyce Hawkins (an actor on Chicago P.D. from suburban Harvey) and Anthony “Spice” Adams (played defensive tackle for the Bears from 2007-2011). There’s also a trio of comedians from Chicago in Hannibal Buress, Lil Rey Howery and Alex Moffat (of Saturday Night Live fame).

In the ringer category there’s A’ja Wilson, a two-time WNBA All-Star for the Las Vegas Aces, and Chelsea Gray, a three-time WNBA All-Star for the Los Angeles Sparks. Darius Miles, an East St. Louis High School grad, and Quentin Richardson of Whitney Young and DePaul will be on opposite sides as well.

Quavo and Bad Bunny have no Chicago ties, but have played in the game in the past. Quavo was the 2018 MVP and Bad Bunny played in last year’s game in Charlotte.

The game will take place on Friday, Feb. 14, at the United Center at 6 p.m. C.T.
