The Rockets are 4-36 since their 11-10 start to the season, a stretch that's featured key injuries (Christian Wood), trades (PJ Tucker, Victor Oladipo) and a 20-game losing streak. On the bright side, they've hurdled to the top of the lottery standings.

The Thunder are 1-17 since Shai Gilgeous-Alexander went down with plantar fasciitis in his right foot, and have lost 14 straight, overall. The tank train marches on, with the development track of their crop of young prospects the primary focus.

Losers of 12 of their last 13 games -- with 11 of those defeats coming by double-figures -- the Magic's season has careened off the rails. Trading Nikola Vučević, Aaron Gordon and Evan Fournier at the deadline foreshadowed a rebuild, and they could tip it off with two top-10 picks if their (top-four protected) right to the Bulls' selection conveys.

The Timberwolves' dominance over the Jazz continues; on Monday, they defeated the team with the league's best record for the third time in three meetings on a last-second D'Angelo Russell layup. Russell's reinvention as a sixth-man (averaging 20 points and 5.3 assists with efficient shooting splits in 12 reserve appearances) has been a revelation, as has Karl-Anthony Towns' continued growth, but they, along with the Rockets, are one of two teams already eliminated from postseason contention.

Clear the runway for the Pistons' intriguing crop of rookies: Isaiah Stewart (10.1 points, 9.4 rebounds per game in April), Saddiq Bey (13.4 points per game in April) and Killian Hayes, who returned from an extended injury absence earlier this month and has shown flashes of potential.

Record: 21-40 (Last Five: 1-4)

O Rating: 105.4 (28th)

 D Rating: 112.3 (21st)
18/30
 Net Rating: -6.9 (28th)

There is cause for optimism around the Cavaliers' young core, especially given the recent play of Darius Garland, who is averaging 21.4 points, 7.3 assists and shooting 43.6 percent from 3-point range in the month of April. But in the near-term, they've lost seven of their last nine games.

19/30

Record: 25-36 (Last Five: 3-2)

O Rating: 113.5 (11th)

20/30
 D Rating: 117.7 (30th)
21/30
 Net Rating: -4.2 (25th)

With De'Aaron Fox in the NBA's health and safety protocol for at least the next two weeks, the Kings appear destined for a bottom-four finish in the West. Tyrese Haliburton's already-stellar rookie season will have a chance to hit another gear with increased opportunity; he's averaged 19 points and nine assists in the first two games without Fox, both of which he started.

22/30

Record: 27-34 (Last Five: 2-3)

O Rating: 114.2 (8th)

 D Rating: 114.1 (27th)
24/30
 Net Rating: 0.0 (15th)

Even in a seven-game stretch in which the Pelicans have dropped five, they're making almost every outing competitive. The question now is, with 11 games left and trailing the Warriors by four games for the final play-in spot in the West: Would any last-gasp push be too little too late?

25/30

Record: 26-35 (Last Five: 4-1)

O Rating: 112.3 (13th)

26/30
 D Rating: 111.4 (14th)
27/30
 Net Rating: 0.9 (14th)

With wins in five of their last six games, the Raptors are quietly surging at the right time, though a knee injury for Chris Boucher will sideline him a while longer. As of Tuesday, Toronto sits in a tie with the Bulls for 11th in the East, one game behind the Wizards for the final play-in spot. With a roster more talented than its record, they're a threat down the stretch, even with the East's hardest remaining schedule.

28/30

Record: 26-35 (Last Five: 3-2)

O Rating: 110.7 (17th)

29/30
 D Rating: 112.1 (19th)
30/30
 Net Rating: -1.4 (22nd)

All things considered, the Bulls have done well to tread water with Zach LaVine in the league's COVID-19 health and safety protocol; they have a 4-3 record since their leading scorer was sidelined, including an impressive, closely-contested road win over the Heat on Monday. Their destiny is out of their hands in the East play-in race, and nine of their next 11 games come against top-eight teams in the conference, but they're comfortably within striking distance of the Wizards for the 10th seed -- one game back and with the tiebreaker in hand.
