Nikola Mirotic has barely had a chance to get settled into his new home of New Orleans, but the freshly-traded forward already put up some solid numbers with his new team.
Mirotic made his Pelicans debut just days after being traded from the Bulls and had 18 points and 12 rebounds in his first game with the Pelicans. He added four steals while shooting 8-for-13 from the field and 3-for-8 from 3-point range.
Mirotic came off the bench, but played 35 minutes. With DeMarcus Cousins out, the Pelicans have a lot less firepower, but Anthony Davis carried the load with 38 points on Saturday.
It was Mirotic's fourth double-double and second-highest rebound total of the season.
Perhaps what Bulls fans are most concerned with now that Mirotic is on another team is if the Pelicans win or lose. The Bulls received a first-round pick in the trade, a pick that is top-five protected in 2018. Bulls fans will be rooting for the Pelicans to move down the standings and up the draft order.
The Pelicans lost to the Timberwolves 118-107 in a game that featured four players who were on the Bulls last year (Mirotic and Rajon Rondo on the Pelicans and Jimmy Butler and Taj Gibson on the Timberwolves).
