Nikola Vučević was made the first trade acquisition of Artūras Karnišovas tenure as Chicago Bulls executive vice president on March 25, 2021.
On Aug. 3, the Bulls and Spurs agreed on a sign-and trade that will net the Bulls DeMar DeRozan.
But before linking up in Chicago those two NBA All-Stars were teammates at USC — way back in 2008-09. So it's no surprise Vučević became one of the first to welcome DeRozan to the Windy City with a nostalgic Twitter post Thursday afternoon:
And the Bulls ties don't stop there. That Trojan team, which went 22-13 in regular-season play and fell to Michigan State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, was coached by Tim Floyd and led on the court by dynamic junior Taj Gibson. James Dunleavy, son of Mike, was a walk-on that season too, though he appeared in just two games.
The Bulls hope the Vučević-DeRozan reunion leads to better success than that. Especially considering Zach LaVine, Lonzo Ball, Patrick Williams and others round out a now-exciting roster.
Vučević was certainly feeling that excitement on Thursday.
"[Bulls Nation] are you excited or what???" Vučević said in a later tweet. "Welcome to the squad [Ball, Alex Caruso, DeRozan]!!! Let's get it!!!!"
