Tomas Satoransky and the Bulls agreed to a three-year deal on the morning of July 1. It was a rather quiet signing, especially in the wake of the chaos that was June 30.
Ironically, that agreement was similar to the kind of under-the-radar, low-maintenance player Satoransky is. And at least one anonymous general manager thought the Bulls nabbing the 27-year-old point guard was the move he liked best during free agency.
ESPN's GM survey was littered with Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers talk, but it also included one vote for Satoransky as the move a GM liked most during the offseason. Satoransky's name also appeared in the "worst offseason move," but it was that the Wizards let Satoransky go in the offseason. There's a chance the same general manager voted for Satoransky on both fronts.
Satoransky's numbers won't jump off the page but he might be the perfect point guard for a Bulls offense that needs to get touches for Zach LaVine, Lauri Markkanen and Otto Porter Jr. Satoransky is a low-usage, high-efficiency lead guard who can guard multiple positions. He can play in transition, makes open 3-pointers and takes care of the basketball. He's an excellent fit for the Bulls, who will want to move their rookie point guard Coby White along slowly in his first year.
We're not sure we like the move more than the Clippers adding Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, and Washington letting Satoransky walk wasn't a worse decision than the Hornets giving Terry Rozier $58 million over three years, but it's nice to see the Satoransky deal get some love.
