The Bulls have reportedly agreed to a sign-and-trade with the Washington Wizards for point guard Tomas Satoransky.
The Bulls will reportedly give up a 2020 second-round pick and the rights to swap a future second-round pick to make the deal work, while the Satoransky deal is for three years and $30 million. Per KC Johnson, the third year of Satoransky's deal has some guarantee protection on it.
Satoransky, 27, stepped into a starting role in his third year with the Wizards after John Wall suffered a season-ending Achilles injury. In 54 starts, Satoransky averaged 10.7 points and 6.2 assists. He finally gives the Bulls a solid perimeter shooter at the position; though it's come on a low volume of attempts, Satoransky has made 42.2% of his 1.7 3-point attempts the last two seasons.
The 6-foot-7 Satoransky has seen signficant time at all three backcourt positions. He primarily played shooting guard and small forward in his first two NBA seasons before moving to point guard full-time in the wake of Wall's injury. Though he has just three years of NBA experience, Satoransky, who fails from the Czech Republic, has been playing professionally since he was 16 years old.
It's interesting to note that Wojnarowski mentions Satoransky as getting an opportunity to start with the Bulls. Chicago used the seventh pick in last month's NBA Draft on 19-year-old Coby White. While White should be expected at some point to take over lead duties, perhaps the Bulls are wanting to ease him into the role, with a player like the 27-year-old Satoransky allowing a buffer to make that happen.
