Report: Bulls interested in Vasilije Micić

It's been widely reported that the Chicago Bulls plan to address the point guard position this offseason.

In addition to current NBA players on the trade and free-agent markets, another name to add to the list emerged Monday: Vasilije Micić, who Mozzart Sport reported could be a trade target of the Bulls'.

Micić, 27, was a second-round draft choice of the 76ers in 2014, but has yet to make the move to the NBA. His rights were traded to the Thunder in the December 2020 trade that sent Al Horford and the rights to Theo Maledon to Oklahoma City and Danny Green, Terrance Ferguson and Vincent Poirier to Philadelphia.

Last season, Micić appeared in 63 total games for Anadolu Efes between the Turkish Super League and EuroLeague, winning MVP and Final Four MVP of the latter after averaging 16.9 points and 4.9 assists across 40 contests (and posting 25 points and 5 assists in a winning effort in the championship game). He entered the Turkish Super League championship, which Efes also won, averaging 13.5 points and 4 assists in that competition.

Envisioning the fit between the Bulls and a player of Micić's skill set isn't difficult. The Efes website lists him between 6-foot-4 and 6-5, he has a multi-year track record of being a solid outside shooter, and he would appear to bring both veteranship and aptitude in high-leverage competition. Artūras Karnišovas' international ties and expertise are well-documented.

Two questions linger. One: What would it cost to acquire Micić's rights from the Thunder? And two: Would he make the transition to the NBA?

While Micić reportedly turned down contract offers from Efes and Real Madrid in April, his agent, Miško Ražnatović, recently made clear in comments to Novosti that he'll be seeking a starting role if he comes overseas.
