Report: NBA, NCAA postpone early entry withdrawal date for 2020 draft prospects

The NBA and NCAA are indefinitely postponing its early entry withdrawal deadline for draft prospects, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

Pushing back the withdrawal deadline, which was originally scheduled for June 3, marks another sign that the draft itself isn't likely to go on as planned. The league has already indefinitely postponed its draft lottery and combine, which were scheduled for May 19 and May 21-24, respectively. It also has solicited votes from teams on prospects to participate in the combine (whenver it's held) and is reportedly considering holding the event virtually. Predraft guidelines already circulated by the league office outlined parameters and prohibitions for meeting virtually with prospects.

The NBA Draft's originally scheduled date of June 25 still stands firm for now, but ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski has previously reported a burgeoning, league-wide push to postpone it until at least early August.

That much feels inevitable. It's hard to imagine the NBA hosting a draft with the fate of the season still open-ended. Commissioner Adam Silver told the Board of Governors on a conference call Tuesday night that the league is targeting a two-to-four week timetable on making a decision whether or not to attempt a resumption of play.

The NBA suspended its season on March 11 after Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19.
