Thad Young out with leg infection, awaiting further tests

Thad Young will miss the Bulls' preseason opener against the Houston Rockets with an infection in his left leg, and is without a timetable to return.

Billy Donovan told reporters that Young had previously been dealing with the infection, but noticed it bothering him during morning shootaround in advance of the game. Team doctors advised he sit the contest out.

"[Young] was dealing with a little bit of a lower leg infection that really was not too terrible to be honest with you, and then today in shootaround he kind of came in and it was bothering him," Donovan said. "But he said he was fine, that he went through shootaround... They wanted to take him to the doctor and took him to the doctor and they advised with the lower leg infection that he sit out tonight and not play."

Donovan said he doesn't know when Young will return, but that he is set to undergo further testing and the team would likely have more information Saturday.

Denzel Valentine (hamstring strain) and Garrett Temple (who is still quarantining after testing positive for COVID-19 on Nov. 28) are also out for the time being. Adam Mokoka was designated as "not with team" on the official injury report, which Donovan said is due to him traveling in from outside the country. Mokoka is originally from France.

"Coming back with COVID and certainly passport those kind of things it's been really challenging. He is in town now," Donovan said of Mokoka, adding that he spoke to him Friday. "There'll be, like the rest of the guys that come in, some protocols and things that he'll have to go through."
