Veteran presences the Bulls could target in free agency
Jared Dudley, 33 years old
2018-19 stats: 4.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 35.1% 3FG
Dudley has played for six different teams in his 12 NBA seasons and has made a positive impact on each one. He was critical for a young Nets team that made the jump from average to good, winning 42 games and earning the No. 6 seed in the East. We all saw in the playoffs that he has a bit of an edge to himself - ask Jimmy Butler - and would be outstanding addition to the locker room.
Vince Carter, 42
2018-19 stats: 7.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 38.9% 3FG
It looks like Carter will play one more NBA season - his 22nd - before calling it a career. He's been a mentor for young teams like the Grizzlies, Kings and Hawks the last three seasons. Why not finish it out by mentoring a fourth in Chicago? And while he wouldn't make all that much of an impact on-court, the Bulls could do worse than a 39% shooter from beyond the arc.
Garrett Temple, 33
2018-19 stats: 7.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 34.1% 3FG
Temple has pretty much seen it all in his 10-year pro career. He went undrafted in 2009, played in Italy in 2012, bounced around multiple Summer League teams and yet has still managed to carve out a lengthy NBA career. He was a solid locker-room presence that helped the Clippers' turnaround in 2019 and could mentor the young Bulls in a similar manner.
Thabo Sefolosha, 35
2018-19 stats: 3.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, 43.6% 3FG
His best playing days are over, but at 35 years old Thabo Sefolosha brings plenty of experience - 828 games worth - to any locker room. He was a key piece for the up-and-coming Jazz over the last two seasons (something he did for the Thunder and Hawks in the past). Odds are he re-signs with the Jazz but maybe there's a homecoming in his future. The Bulls drafted Sefolosha 13th overall in 2006.
Ed Davis, 30
2018-19 stats: 5.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 61.6% FG
Of all the players on this list, Davis would provide the most on-court help. He's just 30 years old and averaged a remarkable 17.3 rebounds per 36 minutes, second in the NBA only to Hassan Whiteside (17.6). He would be an excellent fit behind Lauri Markkanen and Wendell Carter Jr. while also mentoring the two, similar to what he did last season in Brooklyn with Jarrett Allen, and Portland before that.
Amir Johnson, 32
2018-19 stats: 3.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 50.3% FG
Johnson no longer provides much on-court help but his veteran presence in the Sixers' locker room has been critical to the young team's successes. He's a perfect backup to Joel Embiid with a great work ethic and leadership qualities. Put another way, he'd be outstanding to have as Lauri Markkanen and Wendell Carter continue to grow and develop.
DeMarre Carroll, 32
2018-19 stats: 11.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 0.5 steals, 34.2% 3FG
Yes, Brooklyn had quite a bit of veteran leadership last season. Carroll has put together two really nice seasons in Brooklyn after the Raptors dumped his contract. Carroll has averaged 12.3 points on 36% from beyond the arc, and past that has been a solid bench presence for the young Nets. He'd provide much of the same for guys like Chandler Hutchison and Denzel Valentine. He's played for seven teams in 10 seasons and appeared in 62 playoff games.
