Why Bulls new EVP Arturas Karnisovas loves electronic dance music

It first emerged in a story from The Denver Post, and it's become the talk of the town: Arturas Karnisovas is a bit of an EDM (electronic dance music) head.

So what better city for him to land the biggest job of his career — Bulls' executive vice president of basketball operations — than Chicago, the birthplace of house music?

"Jared (Jeffries) talks too much," Karnisovas told NBC Sports Chicago, referencing his former colleague in Denver who first let this nugget slip to the Post. "He’s been an amazing colleague in Denver. He’s a fun guy. We enjoyed that same passion with him. That’s one of the things that I really enjoy and is part of my workouts."

Karnisovas' reputation is one of stoicism, but don't mistake that for passivity. In Denver, he was part of a front office renowned for its modernity, talent evaluation and player development. In Chicago, he's already displayed his no-nonsense attitude.

Of course, there’s still room for some levity. When asked if a Chicago rave might be in his future, Karnisovas diplomatically deflected, but the appreciation for the craft and where it came from is there.

"I’m very diverse in terms of music that I play. I’m all over the place," Karnisovas continued. "I was just first generation of EDM and techno and house. I actually know that house came from Chicago, Detroit area. That’s some history there too."

So don't be surprised to hear the thumping tones of Armin van Buuren, Kaskade or Calvin Harris (Jeffries listed them as Karnisovas' favorite DJs in the Post story) around the United and Advocate Centers whenever the NBA resumes operations.

Karnisovas, by his own admission, will be around both facilities, working out, talking to players and getting the lay of the land on the daily.
