Charges dropped for Big Buff

Dustin Byfuglien is, for the most part, in the clear.

The former Blackhawks defenseman had been arrested on Aug. 31 on Lake Minnetonka for suspicions of impaired boating and plead guilty on the charge of careless boating after police believed he was under the influence of a controlled substance.

The original charge for his arrest has been dropped.

Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press reports Big Buff will receive a 1,000 fine and a 30-day sentence, which includes a 28-day suspension. The final two days will be spent as a "workhorse", meaning the Jets' player could be assigned to trash duty along a freeway. His agent suggested the 27-year-old would be better off signing autographs instead of being on trash duty, but the judge disagreed.

Byfuglien was facing up to one year in jail from the impaired boating charge.
