Bears: Eddie Goldman ankle injury won't require surgery

Rookie nose tackle Eddie Goldman left the locker room in a plastic walking cast after Sunday’s Bears 26-21 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But while Goldman is likely out of next Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions, coach John Fox said Monday that Goldman’s injury will not require surgery, a positive for one of the key young players projected to be a franchise building block well beyond this season.

Goldman, whose year started with some conditioning issues back in minicamps and OTA’s, has developed trust within the coaching staff and has played 499 defensive snaps (54.8 percent), second only to Jarvis Jenkins’ 636 (68.2 percent).

“I think he’s had a good rookie season. I really do,” said coach John Fox. “I know I’m excited about working with him moving forward. And I think he’s excited about working with us.”
