The Eagles announced Tuesday that former Bears head coach Lovie Smith will interview for their open head coaching position.
Smith will interview Thursday for the job previously held by Andy Reid, who was fired after 14 seasons at the helm in Philadelphia. Reid wasn't on the unemployment line with Smith for long, however, as the 54-year-old Reid agreed to a reported five-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Smith, who spent nine seasons in Chicago, is the seventh candidate to garner interest from the Eagles. Defensive coordinators Gus Bradley (Seattle) and Mike Nolan (Atlanta), offensive coordinators Bruce Arians (Indianapolis), Mike McCoy (Denver) and Jay Gruden (Cincinnati) and special teams coach Keith Armstrong (Atlanta) are all candidates for the position.
The Eagles went 4-12 last season, including losses in 11 of their final 12 contests after a 2-1 start. Injuries, notably Michael Vick's concussions, plagued Reid's group, but Reid's problems were a while coming; the Eagles have not won a playoff game since 2008.
Smith's name has also been linked to the Buffalo opening and the San Diego opening.
