Former Bears head coach Lovie Smith will reportedly take a break during the 2013 season with the hopes of obtaining a new head coaching role in 2014.

NFL Insider Adam Schefter tweeted the report on Monday:

Even with openings for DC jobs in Philadelphia and New Orleans, Lovie Smith plans to sit out this year and hopes to return as an HC in 2014. Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 27, 2013
After a 9-year career in Chicago, Smith was let go on Dec. 31 after the Bears missed the playoffs, despite posting a 10-6 record. The Bears will owe Smith 5 million throughout 2013 for the remaining year left on his contract.
