Blackhawks: Duncan Keith ejected for high-sticking, ‘intent to injure'

ST. PAUL, Minnesota – Duncan Keith didn’t play much of Tuesday night’s game against the Minnesota Wild. Considering his actions in that one, he may be out of a few more games, too.

Keith was assessed a match penalty for “intent to injure” in the first period of the Blackhawks-Wild game. Replays showed Keith, after being tripped by Charlie Coyle and falling to the ice, swinging his stick at Coyle’s face. Coyle was bleeding from the nose following the high-sticking.

The department of player safety will review the match penalty, during which time Keith will be suspended indefinitely. Whether or not the department suspends Keith more games is uncertain at this time. The NHL currently considers a player a repeat offender if his most recent suspension was within the last 18 months. Keith was last suspended one game for high-sticking Jeff Carter during the Western Conference final in June of 2013.
