Blackhawks: Patrick Kane not commenting on reports involving investigation

The Patrick Kane investigation is reportedly nearing its conclusion. But Kane said he’s not talking about it until he hears word from the district attorney, not report.

The Buffalo News, citing sources, reported on Saturday night that charges probably will not be filed against Kane, who a woman has accused of raping her at his Hamburg, N.Y., home in early August.

Kane, speaking following the Blackhawks’ practice on Sunday, did not comment much on the situation.

“Those are just reports and not really any facts or anything so far,” said Kane. “For me to comment on that would be going against what we’ve been doing the whole time so I’m not really going to say much about it until the district attorney addresses everything and makes his decision.”

Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita III did not comment to the Buffalo News regarding his plans for the investigation. Sedita held a press conference in late September to clarify/correct some bizarre occurrences in the investigation at that point. The accuser’s attorney at the time, Tom Eoannou, claimed there was possible evidence tampering involving the rape kit and a bag allegedly left at the accuser’s mother’s home. Eoannou resigned from the case the next day, saying, “misrepresentations were made” regarding how that bag was found.

Sedita, speaking on Sept. 25, said the rape-kit evidence bag was a “hoax,” and that rape kits come in boxes, not bags.

When asked that day about where the case went from there, Sedita said, “the question in my mind is not when this case will go to a grand jury, it’s if this case will go to a grand jury.”

The investigation has been going on for about three months now. Kane said he isn’t frustrated with how long the investigation has taken.

“You understand the law and I’m not the only case that’s going on in that district. I’m sure there are other matters they’re attending to,” Kane said. “It’s one of those situations where it seems like it’s been a long time but obviously I’ll be looking forward to any time of conclusion, whatever it may be.

“For me to comment on any thing sources say or any reports would be against what we’ve been saying this whole time,” Kane continued. “I’ll just stick to that plan: not saying much about it, just waiting for a conclusion.”
