Tommy Wingels, who the Blackhawks acquired earlier this month, will miss 6-8 weeks after suffering a left-foot fracture during his offseason training. Team physician Dr. Michael Terry said in a statement that the Blackhawks, “anticipate a full recovery in 6-8 weeks and in time for training camp. We do not anticipate any long-term issues.”
Wingels was wearing a walking boot on his left foot at the Blackhawks convention on Saturday.
“I was doing some training, some jumps, and I awkwardly rolled my ankle. Suffered setback, just a little break there,” he said. “It’s something I could probably play through during the season but it’s better to be in a boot right now. I don’t anticipate missing any time with it [in the fall]. I’ll be ready to go.”
The Blackhawks signed Wingels, a Wilmette native, to a one-year deal on July 1.
