Deng finishes Olympics with win, focus turns to wrist

Share

Luol Deng and the Great Britain national basketball team defeated China 90-58 Monday, marking the country's first win in Olympic play since 1948.
Deng was quiet in the win, scoring an Olympic-low six points on 3-of-11 shooting (0-of-4 from beyond the arc) in 24 minutes. He added four assists, three rebounds and a steal in the win.
Deng struggled from the field in the Games as defenses have targeted the Bulls small forward. He averaged 15.8 points per game, and shot 31.4 percent from the field for the host Great Britain.
ESPN's Marc Stein reported earlier that Great Britain's head coach Chris Finch told him Deng's wrist injury was not an issue.

Marc Stein GB coach Finch says @LuolDeng9 wrist was no issue "all summer" but admits weary go-to guy likely "going to live in ice bath for next month"

With Deng being able to rest before Bulls' training camp begins in September, the question of whether or not Deng will have surgery on his left wrist to repair torn ligaments will arise.
If he does have the surgery, Deng would miss a good portion of the 2012-13 season, but would make more sense long-term when he and Derrick Rose (ACL) would both be on the court.
