Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas had to suffer through the death of his sister a day before the Bulls-Celtics series started.

Despite being seen crying during warmups the day of the game, Thomas started for the Celtics and wore shoes in honor of his sister.

His green Nike shoes had her name, Chyna, written on them along with the text "R.I.P. LiL SiS" on his left shoe. On Thomas' right shoe was the date of her death "4-15-17."

Before the game Brad Stevens talked about Thomas' decision to play and how it is affecting him in the video above.

Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg offered sympathy to Thomas before Sunday's Game 1.

"I know I speak on behalf on the entire organization, we offer our thoughts and prayers to Isaiah and the entire Thomas family," Hoiberg said. "He just seems like such a great kid. Obviously he's one of the great competitors that we have in our league. He seems like such a good kid and it's just awful what happened."

The Celtics had a moment of silence before Game 1.
