The Bulls have found success in recent years with shoot-first point guards behind Derrick Rose, and they could add another when free agency begins Wednesday.

According to ESPN Dallas' Tim MacMahon, the Bulls are one of four teams showing interest in free agent point guard J.J. Barea. MacMahon lists the Bulls along with the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks.

Barea, 31, averaged 7.5 points and 3.4 assists in 77 games last year for the Mavericks, It was his second stint in Dallas, where he spent the first five years of his NBA career. Barea then spent three seasons in Minnesota before returning to where it all began on a veteran's minimum deal.

The Bulls currently have Rose, Kirk Hinrich (who picked up his player option) and E'Twaun Moore on the depth chart. Aaron Books is not expected to return and the Bulls opted for big man Bobby Portis in last week's draft instead of addressing the point guard position.

As CSN's Kevin Anderson pointed out in his Bulls' free agency primer, the Bulls could sign Barea using the mini-MLE of Barea, once a key cog in Dallas - that won a championship in 2010 - would provide nothing more than situational depth, but would address one of the Bulls' offseason needs. Bulls Insider Vincent Goodwill is reporting that Rodney Stuckey could be in play for the Bulls as well.
