Cubs superhuman ace Jake Arrieta wins consecutive NL Pitcher of the Month

The hardware just keeps rolling in for Jake Arrieta.

The Cubs' superhuman ace picked up his second straight National League Pitcher of the Month on Monday for his dominance in September. It's the first time a NL pitcher has won the award in back-to-back months since the Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw did it last year in June and July. Kershaw finished the year by winning the Cy Young.

During his five outings in Sepetember, Arrieta went 4-0 with a 0.45 ERA (seriously). It's the lowest in the month of September since the Twins' Johan Santana back in 2004 (0.45). Santana also went on to win the AL Cy Young that year.

The last NL pitcher to post a September ERA lower than Arrieta's was Hall of Famer and former Cub Greg Maddux back in 1995 when he was with the Braves. And, as you probably guessed, Maddux went on to win the NL Cy Young that year as well.
