Garza doesn't look like a deadline trade chip for Cubs

The Cubs were going to have to be blown away to deal Matt Garza. But now it sounds like they wont even get that chance.
Manager Dale Sveum said an MRI on Garzas right elbow came back clean and only revealed traces of fluid. Cramping around the triceps forced Garza from his last start on July 21 in St. Louis.
As rumors fly all around the Cubs, Garza will not get another start to prove hes completely healthy before Tuesdays 3 p.m. trade deadline.
Hes not going to be able to pitch until later next week at the earliest, Sveum said Friday. I dont expect anybody to be gone until it happens anyway. So Im not dwelling on that at all. We got to get him back on the mound.
General manager Jed Hoyer has said that you always have to have a price in your head of what each player is worth. The Cubs keep insisting that this wont be a disabled-list situation, but the timing also isnt right for maximum value. Now rival executives have to be wondering in the back of their heads: Whats wrong with Garza?
Garza has made at least 30 starts in each of the last four seasons. Hes already made his bones in the playoffs and the American League East. Hes also not a rental player, remaining under club control through 2013.
There is, of course, the counterargument: This is exactly they type of pitcher the Cubs should build around. For now, the big-picture questions can wait.
Hes doing better, Sveum said. Well just wait and see what happens with his throwing program.
